Kinwell Kick-Off 2018

We. Are. BACK! We welcomed 22 returning students on Monday and have seven new ones so far! (We'll receive more students in the next few weeks.) Many of our students were glad the summer is over (we're not kidding!) and excited to be back at Kinwell. I guess being with us teachers isn't as bad as some of them made us think at the end of last year :)

Jake! He loves the mouthwatering breakfast sandwiches with bacon, cinnamon sugar, and paprika his mom makes him each morning.
Charlotte led us in an ice-breaker activity the first day of school, helping us get to know each other.

Charlotte's Web

Not only do we have new students, but we have a new teacher! Charlotte Dubois (pronounced "Doo-bwah") joined the squad this summer and she brings a ton to the table. She's basically LeBron James.

She studied Elementary Education and Special Education-Learning Disabilities at IWU, working in the education system ever since, K-12. She loves the diversity of backgrounds and learning styles she's gotten to teach, and is working on her M.Ed in School Counseling and Guidance.

When she was a little girl, a nurse let Charlotte try on her stethoscope at an appointment (imagine Harry Potter receiving his wand for the first time). Charlotte twirled around and screamed out, "I will help people when I get older!" And now she is.

Will See-ya-later Severns

Last school year ended with the bittersweet news of Will Severns AKA Willy J moving back to his hometown of Kansas City. He, his wife, Lauren, and newborn baby, Branch, will be dearly missed but we are grateful for how Will transformed our culture and cared for students. Many have requested to hear from Willy J ASAP and wondering when he will come back to visit. Will - if you're out there, come back soon!

How to pray for Kinwell

  1. Beginning the year, it's very important to establish the culture of our school. Pray the staff does this well and the students buy in.
  2. Our Family Time topic next week is on identity. Pray that students come to understanding of their true identity in Christ!
  3. The staff is planning KITE trips for this year (so far we have one scheduled for Sept. 26). Pray that we plan well for our students and things work out in our schedule.
