Welcome to (Roger's) Jungle

Papa Rog and the gang drove off to the friendly confines of the Fort Wayne Zoo this morning to kick off the Fall 2018 edition of Kinwell KITE trips. The zoo is a fairyland of bottomless popcorn buckets, orangutans, and most importantly, a place to have fun as a family. Most of our KITE trips are designed to get students new experiences and trying new things. The zoo is about family. We try to have experiences that allow students to know they're a part of ours!

Be encouraged!

Going along with being a part of the family, "healthy famillies are encouraging" is a phrase tossed around here frequently. From having time at the zoo to grow closer and talk, working through math class together, and having a Family Time dedicated to writing encouraging things to each other, you better better believe we all know how to speak positively at Kinwell!

Here is a sample of encouragement notes we do regularly for Family Time. Most encouraging to Dres were:

3. Steady, kind, thoughtful
2. You're a cool friend and teacher
1. I like your tooth (Dres had a chipped front tooth last week)

Kinwell Reads

"Leaders are readers." Joanna Witzig sure is both of those things, and books like No-Drama Discipline by Daniel Siegel and Tina Bryson have helped her learn essential tools in speaking and relating to children and students about problems. We've noticed that when students respond harshly to a situation, there are usually things going on underneath the surface. This books helps parents and teachers think compassionately rather than reactionary to help children and students grow and mature, rather than just being punished.

Prayer Requests

1. Latrese Moffitt joined our team to do job training and work with our senior class. Pray for her as she develops curriculum and gets accustomed to a new job!
2. We're moving forward with providing counseling services to our students - pray the students who need this are willing to ask for help.
